Sacramento, California has definitely started to earn a reputation as one of the most “food centric” cities in the United States. Already home to hundreds and hundreds of restaurants, bars, cafés, pubs, and eateries large and small, most of the very best places to eat in Sacramento are located in the Midtown or the downtown area.
Of the hundreds of places to eat in Sacramento, some of them (obviously) stand head and shoulders above the rest. The only problem is figuring out which restaurants are which before you sit down for a meal and risk blowing your cash on a subpar experience.
That’s why we’ve put together this quick list of the most popular restaurants and bars in Midtown Sacramento. You’re going to be able to dig up insider information about these eateries, and should be able to come up with some kind of game plan or itinerary that guarantees you never eat at the same place twice unless you want to go back for seconds. And believe us, with all of the locations on this list, going back for seconds is almost inevitable.
They are just that special!
But enough about that. Shall we jump right into the restaurant listings already?
Let’s get right to it.
Old Soul Company
One of the most special restaurants in the Midtown area, you’re going to be able to find American classics served up in a very friendly atmosphere, and the food here is absolutely to die for.
Everything about Old Soul Company is very laid back, very low key, and very casual – fitting in nicely with the overall atmosphere and vibe that Sacramento itself throws off. This isn’t exactly a place that you’ll want to come when you want to pop in and out, sitting for only a few moments to enjoy a quick bite.
Instead, it’s definitely a sit down kind of location where you’ll want to bring friends, family members, or even your first date so that you can spend a bit of time getting to know each other in a relaxing atmosphere with some of the best food in the city.
Soul food is a given (surprise, surprise), but you’re going to want to make sure that you also enjoy the dessert and coffee. While Seattle gets all of the attention for coffee on the West Coast, Old Soul Company produces top notch coffee. It’s the perfect way to end a perfect experience!
Uncle Vito’s Slice of NY
Every single city in the United States (and pretty much every single city around the world, for that matter) has more pizza joints than you can shake a stick at, and all of them approached pizza in a completely and totally unique way.
Some of them focus on the crust, others focus on the sauce, and others still try to overload pizza with all kinds of exotic toppings to create interesting flavor combinations that are anything but the pizza that you are used to grabbing quickly and taking home.
But for most people (except for those on the Chicago side of things) one style of pizza stands head and shoulders above the rest of the pack, and that’s New York style pizza. Thin crusted, delicious, and loaded with sauce and cheese, there is nothing on the planet quite like New York style pizza.
Of course, it’s almost impossible to find yourself an authentic slice of New York City pie but that’s exactly what you’re going to find at Uncle Vito’s. This is as legit a slice of New York City pizza as you’re going to find anywhere outside of the Big Apple itself, the perfect way to add a little bit of East Coast flavor to the West Coast.
San Francisco has earned quite a bit of a reputation as the premier home for authentic sushi in the United States (and certainly here in California), but Sacramento definitely gives that city by the bay a run for its money with Nishiki Sushi.
Offering a dizzying array of truly authentic sushi from some of the most impressive sushi chefs on the planet, each and every one of the sushi specialists employed here has spent years and years honing their craft, fine tuning their recipes, and sourcing only the very best ingredients to produce sushi unlike anything else you’ve ever had.
Better than that though, is the fact that the sushi you’ll find at Nishiki Sushi is inexpensive, giving you the opportunity to meet the best sushi in Sacramento without ever threatening to break your bank account in the process.

Uber has a major presence in the city of Sacramento, and just might be the ultimate alternative for you when you’re looking to hitch a ride to the Midtown area (or anywhere else in the city, for that matter).

According to local Sacramento DUI Lawyer Michael Rehm, it also has cut down on the amount of dui arrests, which in converse, means the reduction in the amount of individuals actually drinking and driving, which is a huge benefit to midtown and the region in general.
There’s a reason why this particular service is one of the fastest growing businesses in the United States, and why so many assume that it’s going to make the traditional taxi service obsolete.
